The idea of nudity certainly didn’t start in Florida, but visitors could certainly be forgiven for thinking so. Pasco County, just 20 miles north of Tampa in particular seems to be awash with resorts, campgrounds and clubs catering especially to the nudist sector. Half a dozen resorts can be found within a six mile radius along the highway.

The clubs, resorts and campgrounds generate good revenue for the county and it helps that traditional attractions like SeaWorld, Disney and Universal Studios are just down the road. This certainly makes the inhabitants much more amenable to the openness of both the county and visitors.

As a tourist destination Pasco County existed long before Disney ever thought about Mickey Mouse. Cypress Cove, a family friendly resort in Kissimmee was established in the 60s and Lake Como, which attracts upwards of 1500 visitors a year, opened its doors in 1947.

Nudism is on the rise. The American Association for Nude Recreation – better known as AANR – reports that the industry generates well over $400 million in revenue, and its membership stands at 50,000 – an increase of 75% since 1992.

As numbers increase, the quality of services and accommodation are meeting the challenge. Pasco County now has top quality hotels like Paradise Lakes offering more restaurants, services and attractions than ever before.

Caliente is another major player, bringing to the party a whole new level of accommodation. Completed in 2004, its nudist resort comes complete with up market holiday homes and condos, a pool with a waterfall and sub tropical landscaping.

The equivalent offering from Disney is Pleasure Island, which has a wide range of restaurants, bars and nightclubs for adults to attend. Each of these different bars offers a different type of entertainment.

There are also other restaurants and clubs here and you do not have to pay in order to get into the area. However, each club will charge a cover, but you can also purchase a ticket which will allow you to enter all of them for just eight dollars.

One of the best of these is to visit the Vera Carter Environmental building where a great deal of information can be found in some of the local wildlife and plants in Florida. It also has a great deal of information about environmental programs the centre are running and the whole thing has been designed to particularly appeal to children.

There is also a significant amount of green space surrounding the centre where you will find all sorts of natural diversity. All around this park there are over four miles of trails which families can walk along and there are lots of signs providing information about the various plants in the area.

There are many animals that live in the park, although some of them are nocturnal so you are unlikely to see them. There is no charge to visit the centre but it is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

The centre of nightlife at Disney World is called Pleasure Island and here you will find a wide selection of nightclubs and restaurants. There are eight different nightclubs in the area, all of which have a different theme. One of the most popular is a country music bar, called the Wildhorse Saloon. This venue regularly hosts live music and the food here is all barbecue based.
